There will be an iPad launch this fall (not with iPods) and it will be a minor upgrade, much the same as we have with the Macbook/MBPros now. The aim is to replace the MacBooks with iPads (for the mainstream market at least) and as you know a year is a long term in computer terms. iPad 2 second release update will include NFC to be compatible with the iPhone 5 to allow for sharing and features to been seen with iOS5. The iPhone five will see summer release on schedule.

I want to know what type of video you are doing because we sure don't need that and we do high end video editing for National Geographic/Discovery/Smithsonian.
Unless you are doing Hollywood stuff, I see no need for half the stuff you listed.
More internals and PCIE slots? For what? Almost all of our clients are delivering tapeless now and on externals. Dual optical bays? Seriously? Fibre is a must if you are in a post house.

Internal: 2x1TB boot drives Mirrored. 2x750GB random storage drives.
Added DVD Burner (our Blu-Ray burner is in another Mac Pro)
Factory DVD Burner
Video Card
PCIe FW 400 and FW800 Combo Card
Sonnet eSATA card
Backpane adaptor running a pair of eSATA drives (both 150GB Raptors in RAID 0) off the internal unused Optical Bay SATA ports. (Video Render 1)
The Sonnet card is hooked to a pair RAIDs. 10 Drives in a old CD Duplicator with a Addonics ports multipliers. One is 4x640GB Video Storage drive RAID, the other is 4X 500GB drives. The 500's are actually a pair of 1TB RAIDS, one for Audio Render, the Other for longer term Raw Video Storage. Finally 2 other drives in that external each have their own SATA connections to the Sonnet card (Audio Storage, and Graphics Storage.)
Fibre Channel card hooked to the legacy Avid MediaNet or whatever it's called, for the ooooolllld footage from before our final cut switch last year.
Plus about 5 firewire 800 drives for backing everything up, and a firewire HDV deck, and once in awhile a control surface for Audio Mixing. We shoot tape still (HDV) because like I said, we are a small station that can't afford new prosumer card based cameras. Man would I love some though. We still get a lot of stuff delivered on tape (beta, yuck) and DV format. We do shoot some commercials occasionally using a Pani P2 based camera and a DSLR, but the road warrior cameras are still tape.
I want internal stuff because my desk is already cluttered enough. I'm constantly burning 2 DVD's at once to deliver footage to people, both in data and video. We shoot a lot for the US Ski Team, and when the world cup comes to the USA other stations always want footage. Uploading 19GB over a pair of "Shotgunned" DSL lines (400K upload, max) takes awhile, so most of the time we overnight it.
And that's just my desk. The other workstations use some drives on my machine as cold storage for finished projects. Between packages, 2 live shows, and special feature 30 or 60 minute long form shows we crunch a lot of video. No it's not big hollywood studio stuff, but the sheer volume of footage going in and out is a hassle.
I agree the future is tapeless, but where do you store all that raw? We fill 6TB of hard drive space every 6 months. During the Sundance Film Festival which happens here, we were ingesting nearly 12 hours of footage and producing 6 hours of content (live shows, pre-taped shows, packaged shows) a day. While most everything we have is on tape, going to find those (usually poorly labeled) tapes, capturing, and editing takes forever, so we try and keep as much raw as possible on the drives for quick access.
At some point I need to setup a render station to take all the prores finished projects and downconvert to H264 for storage on Blu-ray discs. But that's not really a long term solution since any burned disc will eventually fail. I don't really want the expense of HDV backups, but it's the cheapest loooong term solution I can think of.

The scroll bars are changed to be more iOS-like, windows are resizable from any corner, the buttons (and checkboxes AFAIK) are changed to no longer be Aqua styled. Small changes, but the sum of them is pretty substantial: All remaining traces of Aqua should now be gone.

Why? Just because it is 1.2 would be a decimal point update doesn't mean it would not be significant. 1 > 1.1 was very good. 1.1 > 1.2 could be just as good and free for all of us that are early adopters of the software.
In case you are new or unfamiliar to programming, a decimal point update is more of a minor update rather than major update. Minor update could be, bug fixes, tweaks, yada yada. Major would mean something really significant. I think what Molnies was referring to was he wants to see major update.

So I thought... Would apple release a phone-only? No chance. It will most definitely have music features including wireless downloads from the iTMS (including a way to put the songs on your computer)... If this rumor is true of course.
My hope is for the phone to work on the Nextel / Sprint network not just because I have a Nextel, but because they have had time with their walkie-talkie feature, and I'd imagine that that would benefit the use of something like iChat over the phone.
Ah well, only a little over a week till the big day!

Absolutely true. Just for kicks I downloaded it and scanned ALL my HDs. Results?
- for 2,500,000 files, it took at least 8 hours while slowing my Mac to a crawl for anything else - Dual-core CPU usage of 100% on average (out of 200%);
- Of course it didn't find anything relevant for Macs; just 2 VERY old Windows worms that were apparently attached to a couple of archived Outlook messages received by my Windows PC at work - these files were just part of a dormant 2006 backup of my Windows work files stored on my Mac for more than 4 years.
Following that waste of time, I simply clicked on Remove Sophos and got rid of it. Nice effort and free, but irrelevant nonetheless. Wake me up again when there is a real virus for OS X.

That comment about two-drive sleds makes me nervous. Apple seems to sometimes sacrifice function for form. Hense the tendency for the smaller notebooks to get REALLY HOT. This is a problem for gamers, because most 3G games just use 100% CPU all of the time, and some Macs (mine for instance) have been known to develop faults as a result of prolongued exposure to heat.
So, here they're going to pack the hard drives in more tightly? Fine for SSDs, but mechanical hard drives are unreliable beasts. Packing them closer is just going to make it harder to cool them properly. And in fact, it appears that most PC makers (Apple is no exception) pay very little attention to hard drive cooling. Why do you think there were so many Time Capsule failures? Apple III all over again. No fans, no airflow, component failure.

I don't have the time to write an exhaustive response to this magnum opus, but I'm going to leave with a few concluding points:
It doesn't matter what normal body temperature is because that's not what people are looking for when they take a temperature; they're looking for what's not normal. If it can be helped, the number one is seeking should be as flat as possible.
There is a distinctive quality about 100 that is special. It represents an additional place value and is a line of demarcation for most people. For a scientist or professional, the numbers seem the same (each with 3 digits ending in the tenths place), but to the lay user they are very different. The average person doesn't know what significant digits are or when rounding is appropriate. It's far more likely that someone will falsely remember "37.2" as "37" than they will "99" as "98.6." Even if they do make an error and think of 98.6 as 99, it is an error on the side of caution (because presumably they will take their child to the doctor or at least call in).
I realize this makes me seem like I put people in low regard, but the fact is that most things designed for common use are meant to be idiot-proof. Redundancies and warnings are hard to miss in such designs, and on a temperature scale, one that makes 100 "dangerous" is very practical and effective. You have to keep in mind that this scale is going to be used by the illiterate, functionally illiterate, the negligent, the careless, the sloppy, and the hurried.
The importance of additional digits finds its way into many facets of life, including advertising and pricing. It essentially the only reason why everything is sold at intervals of "xx.99" instead of a flat price point. Marketers have long determined that if they were to round up to the nearest whole number, it would make the price seem disproportionately larger. The same "trick" is being used by the Fahrenheit scale; the presence of the additional digit makes people more alarmed at the appropriate time.
I believe the discussion of body temperature has reached a senseless level. I disagree with your claim that body temperatures in celsius are more difficult to remember, and I don't believe there's any substatial evidence to support this claim. Regardless, Celsius seems to work just fine for the entire world (...practically), unless you know something about European mothers that I don't.
Of course any amateur baker has at least a few cups of both wet and dry so they can keep ingredients separated but measured when they need to be added in a precise order. It just isn't practical to bake with 3 measuring devices and a scale (which, let's be real here, would cost 5 times as much as a set of measuring cups).
I see no reason why baking with a scale is impractical. It's not what you're used to, but that doesn't reflect upon the merits of a metric system.
This also relies on having recipes with written weights as opposed to volumes. Guys, no one said that Apple was considering making the Mac Pro into a formal rackmount server -- you can already do that on your own.
The only thing that was said was that the case may be smaller, and that because it might be less than 19" across, you could toss it in a rack.
Nothing was said about rack ears, a 1U, 3U or 6U chassis, just that the case would be smaller. 3rd party companies could do whatever they want to make it rack-compatible from there.

Given that Apple sold over 4 million Macs last quarter, that must equate to around $7 billion in revenue. Macs still make up around a quarter of Apples revenue, so while iPhones might be where the most money is coming in, Apple can't ignore $7 billion per quarter...
Very true but those Macs are portables, not iMacs and certainly not the overpriced and overpowered Xeon server driven Mac Pro's that replaced the affordable and (at the time) upgradeable G4's and G5's we all used for our work. What happened to the dedicated 20/23/30" LCD CCFL Apple Cinema Display line, or even the Apple Studio Display line before them? Replaced with ONE 27" LED LCD based off the 27" iMac (basically an iMac without a computer). Times change, I get it, but why do they have to leave us power users who supported them before the iPod and need Apple systems for work behind? It's costing us thousands to switch to Windows systems and applications such as Avid and Premiere Pro/Adobe Suites.
IDevices are amazing, but please, don't make the already dwindling prosumers systems become iOS systems for the average Joe. There are a lot of people on here that are new comers from Apple's iPod/iPhone influx that don't know/understand what this is doing to those who really need OS X and affordable mid-towers and top notch displays again… and once built in California, now "designed" in California. Man, sad times for us and the states on that change...

Wonder if the tablets they're going for are pre-honeycomb or post? It'd be hard to compare Honeycomb UI to anything Apple's currently doing, and any tablet prior to that, there's surely plenty of prior art android tablets? There were a whole bunch (admittedly lousy chinese cheap rubbish) tablets being demo'd at every tech conference for a year before Apple even admitted they had a tablet to sell.

The phones are the obvious vector they're going for, they do have UI patents, but when it comes down to it, and other phone manufacturers (or rather their lawyers) see how much money is involved, I can see it getting messy as everyone who had a phone with buttons on it (and there are many) will want to take a shot.

Ok, I'll try to make this as simple as possible: if I used a fully 64-bit OS & fully 64-bit software, that is software optimized for 64-bit processors, on a fully 64-bit processor, what would the advantage of using that set-up over using a 32-bit OS & 32-bit software on a 32-bit processor?
